Balboa Park Attractions
Within this park are many beautiful, smaller parks and gardens. If you are bringing children along, they will have a blast at any of the many playground parks. The many different playgrounds are built to be suited for various child age ranges; for example, the Bird Park at Upas is smaller and very safe for toddlers that might be still learning how to walk thanks to the partially enclosed area. A larger playground, Pepper Grove playground, is perfectly tailored to children of all ages and features numerous slides and more advanced outdoor play things like its faux zip line.
There are also multiple dog parks that your dog will love exploring. The Grape Street Dog Park is the largest option, spanning five acres. Big and small dogs of all types have a field day safely exploring the wide open space.
Whether you are visiting with a family or not, these one of a kind experiences are worth checking out. The San Diego Zoo is one of the biggest tourist attractions thanks to its unique habitats and personal animal encounters. The world class exhibits are worthwhile to check out.
Located just outside the zoo is the vintage Miniature Train ride (operated by the zoo). This brief ride takes you on a short route around the park and kids will love it. Also near the zoo is the Balboa Park Carousel, a lovely ride for both families and individuals. This historical carousel was originally made in New York and later shipped to California.
The park is full of exceptional museums focusing on arts, cultures, and history. Two of the notable popular spots are the San Diego History Center and the Japanese Friendship Garden, but don’t limit yourself to just visiting those two.
